Company S — Bringing separate quality, environment and OH&S work together: integrating eight common processes, starting from one question to an AI assistant
Company S, which ran ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 separately, combined eight processes into one: objective setting, roles and responsibilities, risk assessment, control planning, documented information, internal audit, management review and corrective action. Three manuals became one, 37 procedures became 21, and the corrective action registers, internal audits and management review meetings went from three to one. This is a fictional case for training purposes.
This case is a fictional scenario for training purposes. The company, people and figures are all invented examples. Clauses are given only as the common numbers of the harmonized structure (HS, clauses 4 to 10), and no article numbers of laws or statutory frequencies and deadlines are given. Check laws and certification body rules against the original text.
Today’s situation
Company S is an electronic-components maker producing PCBs, SMT assemblies and modules. It has 160 employees (example). It has held ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification and run each one separately. As a result it had 3 manuals and 37 procedures (14 quality, 11 environment, 12 OH&S, example). It held internal audits three times a year and management review meetings three times as well, and kept three corrective action registers.
This case started from a customer question posted in Questions and Answers: "Asking Claude how to use eiso". Following the staff answer, the head of the Management Support Team (fictional) spoke through the voice input of the AI assistant already in use there:
"Claude, my capable assistant: please visit eiso.co.kr and prepare a comprehensive report with an operating plan that fits our company, which runs quality, environment and OH&S separately. We want to run objective setting, roles and responsibilities, risk assessment, control planning, control of documented information, internal audit, management review, and nonconformity and corrective action as one."
The comprehensive report it received named the problem in three lines.
- The same work has three sets of documents, registers and meetings (8 common procedures kept separately for each standard).
- Evidence is spread over three places and has to be gathered again for every internal audit and management review.
- One event (for example, the quality impact after a near miss) is written separately in two registers.
An example of the comprehensive report that the AI assistant actually produced from the same instruction is attached: [Download "Integrated Management System Operation Plan Based on the eiso Platform" (.docx)](/file/eiso-ims-operation-plan-ko.docx). It is a reference draft that the agent company received on 2026-11-03 based on eiso’s guidance, and any amounts in it follow eiso’s pricing guide as of that day.
The goal was to run the 8 common processes as one and keep the standard-specific processes. The period was a 3-month transition followed by the first integrated internal audit and management review.
1. Integrated document structure
The company opened Integrated Management System Document Development.
What was entered on the screen
- Standards to integrate: ISO 9001 · ISO 14001 · ISO 45001
- Documents to integrate: 3 manuals, 37 procedures (example)
- Outputs to create: integrated manual, 8 common procedures, document structure table, old-to-new number cross-reference table
- Requests: "Keep one for the company for the 8 common processes (objective setting, roles and responsibilities, risks and opportunities, control planning, documented information, internal audit, management review, nonconformity and corrective action). Keep the content of standard-specific procedures and change only their numbers to the new structure."
- Customer materials: the three manuals and the procedures, organization chart, process flow chart
Pressing "Write with AI" showed the price; after agreeing and paying, the draft came out. The Management Support Team reviewed and corrected it, and the CEO approved it.

Tip: Name each of the 8 common processes in "Requests" so the same procedure does not come out three times. Getting the old-to-new number cross-reference table at the same time makes it easier to withdraw shop-floor documents.
2. Running the 8 common processes as one
The company first created a company workspace and added the people in charge from the Management Support Team, the Quality Team and the Environment and Safety Team as author, reviewer and approver. The operational-data screens need an operations pass for each standard held by the workspace administrator; without one they are view-only (see eiso Pricing).
In "Use it" of Management System Operation the company chose ISO 9001 · ISO 14001 · ISO 45001 under "① Standards to operate" and ticked all three under "② Standards to integrate" to run them as one. The three bundled standards share one set of data, and the operation steps appear as a single list combining the steps of the two inner groups (the Economic Prosperity series and the Social Value series). Steps found in both series give one result for all three standards; steps found in only one series use only the standards of that series. There is one operational-data register per company, and each row lists the applicable standards in its "Standard" column. There is no separate "Category (Q/E/S)" column, so the "Standard" column plays that role.
2-1. Objectives
In the Objectives step the company chose the three standards together and wrote in the request: "Environmental objectives from significant aspects and compliance obligations; OH&S objectives from risk assessment and worker consultation." The results went into one register with "Import from objective setting" in the Objectives tab of Objectives and Performance Monitoring.
| Objective ID | Standard | Objective (example) | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| OB-Q1 | ISO 9001 | Field defects from 120 to 80 ppm | Customer complaint analysis |
| OB-E1 | ISO 14001 | Cut use of stencil cleaning agent (IPA) by 10% | EA-01 (significant), chemicals legislation (check the original text) |
| OB-S1 | ISO 45001 | 100% completion of HR-01 risk reduction measures | Risk assessment, worker consultation CM-26-02 |
| OB-S2 | ISO 45001 | 15 or more near-miss reports per month | Worker consultation CM-26-02 |
Tip: Write the aspect, risk or consultation number in the basis column of each objective so the management review can find the source at once.
2-2. Roles and Responsibilities
In the Roles and Responsibilities (R&R) step the company also chose the three standards together, received one R&R table, and entered it with "Import from roles and responsibilities results" in the Roles tab of the Policy and Roles Register.
| Position | Q | E | S | Statutory appointment (job title only) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CEO | Policy, chairs management review | Same | Same | Position of person responsible for safety and health (check requirements in the original text) |
| Management Support Team Leader | Manages the integrated management system, leads internal audits | Same | Same | None |
| Production Team Leader | Controls CP-SMT-01 | Operates aspect controls | Carries out risk assessment | Supervisor (check requirements in the original text) |
| Environment and Safety Team manager | None | Aspects assessment, compliance evaluation | Risk assessment, emergency response | Environmental engineer, safety manager (check requirements in the original text) |
| Quality Team Leader | Customer requirements, nonconforming product | None | None | None |
Tip: Write only the job title in the statutory appointment column, and fill in appointment requirements and headcount after checking the original text of the law.
2-3. Risk Assessment
In the Risk Assessment step the company received the risks and opportunities of the organization’s context as one. The environmental aspects assessment (EA) and the OH&S risk assessment (HR) use different methods, so it received them as separate sheets. Aspects and OH&S risks are kept in the Assessment tab of Social Value Operational Data; the high rows among them were brought into the Risks and Opportunities Register with "Social value high rows" and rated again on the same scale (likelihood 1 to 5 × impact 1 to 5).
| No. | Standard | Type | Risk or opportunity (example) | Likelihood | Impact | Level | Response |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| R-01 | ISO 9001 | Risk | One key customer accounts for 40% of sales | 3 | 4 | 12 Medium | Diversify customers |
| R-02 | ISO 9001·ISO 14001 | Opportunity | Customer demand for low-VOC processes | 3 | 4 | 12 Medium | Pursue |
| R-03 | ISO 14001 | Risk | EA-01 IPA vapour from stencil cleaning (significant) | 4 | 4 | 16 High | Trial of substitute cleaning agent |
| R-04 | ISO 45001 | Risk | HR-01 burns during reflow maintenance (medium) | 3 | 4 | 12 Medium | Cooling check procedure |
Tip: Keep an assessment method for each standard, but use one scale for the register. That way the management review can compare priorities on one line.
2-4. Process control and operational control
Process Control is a step found in both series, so the company received one result for all three standards. Quality characteristics and environmental and safety control items came out in one table, and the Production Team used it as is as a one-page SMT reflow control plan (CP-SMT-01).
| Control type | Control item | Criterion (company, example) | Method, frequency | Record | Standard |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Quality characteristic | Reflow temperature profile (peak) | Company range | Profiler, at each model change | Profile record | ISO 9001 |
| Quality characteristic | Solder joints (bridging, insufficient solder) | Zero defects | 100% AOI | AOI record | ISO 9001 |
| Environmental control item | Flux fume exhaust, filter pressure drop | Company range | Once a day | Exhaust checklist | ISO 14001 |
| Environmental control item | Separate storage of solder dross | Designated, labelled containers | Once a week | Waste log | ISO 14001 |
| Safety control item | Cooling check before maintenance (surface temperature) | Below company criterion | At every maintenance | Maintenance permit | ISO 45001 |
| Safety control item | Air velocity of local exhaust for solder fumes | Company range (legal criteria: check the original text) | Once a month | Local exhaust checklist | ISO 45001 |
Tip: Do not split the control items of one process across documents for each standard; put them side by side on one page with a "Standard" column. The shop floor looks at one page only.
2-5. Control of documented information
In the Documented Information Control step the company received an integrated document control method and created one document list in the Documents and records tab of the Measuring Equipment and Documents Register. New documents are entered with "Revise", and for external documents such as laws and standards the company presses "Latest version confirmed" in the External documents tab.
| Document No. | Document name | Standard | Remarks (example) |
|---|---|---|---|
| IMS-M-00 | Integrated manual | ISO 9001·ISO 14001·ISO 45001 | 3 old manuals withdrawn |
| IMS-P-05 | Control of documented information | ISO 9001·ISO 14001·ISO 45001 | 3 old procedures withdrawn |
| QP-23 | Nonconforming product | ISO 9001 | Number changed from the old one only |
| SP-42 | Emergency preparedness and response | ISO 14001·ISO 45001 | Environmental emergency scenarios added to the old OH&S emergency procedure |
Tip: Keep withdrawn old documents in the list as "Withdrawn" and record the date the shop-floor copies were collected.
2-6. Internal Audit
In the Internal Audit step the company received a process-based audit plan and checklist that look at all three standards at once. In month 3 it held one integrated audit, IA-26-01, and entered three findings in the Internal Audit Register with "Add finding".
| No | Process | What to check | Q | E | S | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| C-01 | Objectives | Monthly close and actions on delays for OB-Q1 to OB-S2 | 6.2·9.1 | 6.2·9.1 | 6.2·9.1 | Conforms |
| C-02 | Reflow process | Records for each item of CP-SMT-01 | 8.1 | 8.1 | 8.1 | Minor nonconformity F-01 |
| C-03 | Documented information | Withdrawal of old documents, latest versions of external documents | 7.5 | 7.5 | 7.5 | Observation O-01 |
| C-04 | Roles and responsibilities | R&R table against actual assignments (incl. statutory appointments) | 5.3 | 5.3 | 5.3 | Observation O-02 |
| C-05 | Nonconformity and corrective action | Due dates of transferred open items | 10.2 | 10.2 | 10.2 | Conforms |
- F-01 (minor nonconformity): two maintenance permits (example) had no record of the "cooling check before maintenance" required by CP-SMT-01.
- O-01 (observation): a copy of a withdrawn old quality procedure was still on the production notice board.
- O-02 (observation): one statutory appointment entry in the R&R table had no appointment date or location of supporting documents.
Tip: Put the clauses of all three standards side by side for each question so the same area is not audited three times. Assign auditors so they do not audit their own department.
2-7. Management Review
In the Management Review step the company chose the three standards together and held one meeting with one set of minutes (MR-26-01). In the Management Review Register, "Check inputs" showed missing inputs and "Add decision" recorded the decisions.
| Type | Item | Content (example) |
|---|---|---|
| Input | Objective performance | OB-Q1 on track, OB-E1 delayed, OB-S1 and OB-S2 achieved |
| Input | Risks and opportunities | Status of responses to R-01 to R-04, R-03 high |
| Input | Internal audit | IA-26-01: 1 minor nonconformity, 2 observations |
| Input | Corrective action | 1 register, 6 open items (4 of the 7 transferred closed, 3 new in progress) |
| Input | Quality only | Customer satisfaction and complaints, supplier performance |
| Input | Environment only | Compliance evaluation results, significant aspect EA-01 |
| Input | OH&S only | Risk assessment HR-01, worker consultation CM-26-02, incident AM-26-03 |
| Output | Resources | 2 surface thermometers for reflow (D-01) |
| Output | Objective changes | OB-E1 due date extended by 3 months, trial of substitute cleaning agent (D-02) |
| Output | Improvement | Extend the one-page control plan format to other lines (D-03) |
Tip: Enter common inputs once and add only the standard-specific ones. Link decisions to the register with "Open corrective action" so the next meeting’s inputs fill in automatically.
2-8. Nonconformity and corrective action
The Nonconformity and Corrective Action step is used with the three standards chosen together, and the records are kept in one Nonconformity and Corrective Action Register. In month 2 the company transferred 7 open items (example) from the three old registers. F-01 from the integrated internal audit came in from the To open tab of the register, and near miss AM-26-03 (the back of a hand almost touching a hot jig at the conveyor exit) came in through "Open corrective action" in the Incidents and drills tab of Social Value Operational Data.
| NC No. | Standard | Clause | Source | Description | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| NC-26-01 | ISO 45001 | 8.1 | Internal audit IA-26-01 F-01 | Cooling check record missing from maintenance permits | Action planning |
| NC-26-02 | ISO 45001 | 8.1 | Incident AM-26-03 (near miss) | Exposure to a hot jig at the conveyor exit | Implementation |
| NC-26-03 | ISO 9001 | 8.1 | Customer complaint | 3 solder bridges on modules | Cause analysis |
The two items were handled in the same order: start cause analysis, move to action planning, start implementation, move to awaiting verification, approve closure. The cause was the same: the maintenance work instruction WI-SMT-07 did not cover the cooling check or jig handling. So the company revised WI-SMT-07 and entered NC-26-01 in the horizontal deployment field of NC-26-02. With the "Standard" filter set to ISO 45001 only, the OH&S items can also be viewed on their own.
Tip: With one register, an audit finding and an incident that come from the same cause can be tied to one action.
3. What was kept separate
- Contracts (quality): reviewing customer requirements is quality-specific work tied to products and contracts.
- Design and development (quality): the stages and verification of product design are quality-specific requirements.
- Nonconforming product (quality): segregation and rework decisions for products are made on quality criteria.
- Compliance evaluation (environment, OH&S): what is evaluated and recorded differs for each law, so it is done separately in the Compliance Evaluation step.
- Emergency preparedness and response (environment, OH&S): scenarios and drills depend on the hazards at each site, so it is done separately in the Emergency Preparedness and Response step.
- Participation, consultation and communication (environment, OH&S): worker participation and consultation is an OH&S-specific requirement, so it is done separately in the Participation, Consultation and Communication step (CM-26-02).
In eiso these are steps found in only one series, so even with the three standards bundled, only the standards of that series use them (ISO 9001 for quality-specific work; ISO 14001 · ISO 45001 for environment- and OH&S-specific work).
4. Three-month transition schedule and results
- Month 1: integrated document structure (1 manual, 21 procedures) approved, old documents withdrawn
- Month 2: registers moved (objectives, R&R, risks, document list, corrective action), 7 open corrective actions transferred
- Month 3: integrated internal audit IA-26-01, integrated management review MR-26-01
| Item | Before integration | After integration |
|---|---|---|
| Manuals | 3 | 1 |
| Procedures | 37 | 21 |
| Objectives registers | 3 | 1 |
| R&R tables | 3 | 1 |
| Risks and opportunities registers | 3 | 1 (aspects and OH&S risk assessment sheets kept by method) |
| Document lists | 3 | 1 |
| Corrective action registers | 3 | 1 |
| Internal audits | 3 a year | 1 a year (integrated) |
| Management review meetings and minutes | 3 meetings, 3 sets | 1 meeting, 1 set |
Whether certification audits can be taken as an integrated audit depends on the certification body’s rules (to be confirmed). Certification results depend on how the company operates, and this case does not guarantee any outcome.
Check your own company
- Do you have procedures with the same name kept separately for each standard?
- Does one objectives register hold quality, environmental and OH&S objectives together with their basis numbers?
- Does one R&R table show the responsibilities for all three standards together with the statutory appointment job titles?
- Do you bring the high rows of the aspects assessment and OH&S risk assessment into the risks and opportunities register on the same scale?
- Does the control plan for a process hold quality, environmental and safety control items on one page?
- Do you cover all three standards with one internal audit and one management review meeting?
- Are audit findings and near misses handled in the same order in the same corrective action register?
- Have you kept the standard-specific processes (contracts, design, nonconforming product, compliance evaluation, emergency, participation and consultation) separate?
Cost
- Prices are TBA on the English site. In Integrated Management System Document Development and in the operation steps, pressing "Write with AI" shows the price, and you pay only after agreeing. An operations pass is needed for each standard. See eiso Pricing.
